How to Measure - Rental Tuxedo & Suits

Make sure your measuring tape is accurate. Always have a helper to take your measurements while you are standing naturally straight and relaxed with your heels together. If you exactly follow these measuring guidelines, it's generally okay. But it's usually recommended to have a professional at formalwear stores to take your measurements with a nominal charge or free. It's really worth to do!

Height & Weight: For your height, stand straight with your back against the wall and measure from the top of your head to the floor without shoes. Determine your weight using an accurate scale.

Chest: With a shirt on (not a bulky one and nothing inside a pocket), place the tape up under your arms, put your arms at your side relaxed, and run the tape over the shoulder blades usually right below the armpit level and around the chest, the fullest part. Insert a finger or two between the tape and the body to insure proper ease.

Overarm: With a shirt on and coat off, place the tape over the both arms at the same level and position where your chest was measured usually at the largest part of the chest and bicep. The most common difference between chest and overarm measurement is around 8" and it varies depending on body types.

Waist: Tuxedo pants have a longer rise than most casual pants or jeans do.  They are intended to be worn higher on the waist. Run the tape around your waist just above the hipbone at the level of around 1" below the belly button.  Insert a finger or two between the measuring tape and your body to allow room for proper ease. Most tuxedo pants have a waist adjuster.

Outseam: Measure along ouside of the leg from the top of the waistband which ia around the same level of the belly button to the bottom hem of your pants which is usually the level of around 1"-1.5" below the ankle bone. When you wear your dress shoes, it will be outside arch of your dress shoes. Remember to stand straight naturally with your heels together and look straight ahead and don't measure yourself.

Neck: Place the measuring tape low on the neck where collar band of the shirt normally falls. Run the tape completely around the neck. Allow a finger space or two between the neck and the tape.

Sleeve: This measurement is for the shirt sleeve length which can also help to determine the coat length.  With your arm straight down at your side, place the tape at the center back of the base of the neck (on the sipne). Run the tape across the top of the shoulder, and down the arm to elbow and down to a point about one inch below the wrist bone. Round off the measurement to the nearest inch. You may need to take this measurement for both right sleeve and left sleeve and take the larger one.

Hip: Usually this measurement is not a must. If you know you need Hip measurement by your past experience or you'd like to be on the safe side, put this measurement in a "Comments" box when you check out for payment. Place the tape directly around your pants and around the largest part of the seat.

Coat Sleeve Inseam: This measurement doesn't need to be taken unless you know you need it for coat sleeve length alteration by your past experience. It is usually predetermined or pre-altered by the coat size and shirt sleeve length. You may leave this measurement in the "Comments" box when you check out for payment. Run the tape from the cuff hem of the coat sleeve to the underarm point where the shoulder seam meets following the inside seam of the sleeve.

Shoe Size: If a shoe sizer isn't available, it is recommended to add a half size to your normal shoe size for formal dress shoes rentals. These shoes have narrow toe boxes and slim widths so a little extra space is typically needed. Select Wide from Shoe Width option if you know you need it.
